Here are the highlights of the Moto 2 race at Aragon.
On the pole will be Simone Corsi, taking his first career pole. Marc Marques rolls off seventh. This is his worst qualifying effort of the season. Jordi Torres and Johann Zarco may be riders to watch for in this race.
This race wil be 21 laps. The bikes set off on a warmup lap. The start is coming up.
The bikes are ready on the grid. The flag is taken away. At the start, Nico Terol gets a great start and so does Andrea Ianonne. Simone Corsi is in the lead while Claudio Corti comes to second with Andrea Ianonne and others going well. Marc Marques has been overtaken by Johann Zarco. Nico Terol gets passed. Scott Redding is mired in the back of the pack as Taki Nakagami falls and Zarco might have done so, too! OK. Commentators curse! Scott Redding is sixth. World feed commentator Gavin Emmett made a mistake.
Pol Espargaro and Andrea Ianonne battle for second place. Brad Smith is going well now, but has not had the best of weekends. Marques has to be careful. Smith passes Corti, and Zarco wants by him, too. Pol Espargaro runs wide. Bradley Smith also needs to pass Andrea Ianonne. Bradley Smith will be a MotoGP rider next year. He'll have to be ready for that challenge. Marc Marques passes Scott Redding, and Zarco. Bradley Smith runs deep on Ianonne and begins to lose spots. He's forced to sit up, going around the inside line. Marques goes around Espargaro, winding up the 600cc motor.
Marques passes Ianonne, or tires to. Marques does make a successful pass, into second. Marques runs fast lap at 1:55.478. This is overstated, always. But, there is no doubt as to why Marc Marques will run with Repsol Honda along with Dani Pedrosa in MotoGP next year. Tito Rabat is running well. Ianonne is trying to fight. But, Marques has the clear advantage at this point.
Tito Rabat resets fast lap at 1:55.2. Mike DiMeglio is running well. He's a former 125cc World Champion. Marques passes Corsi. Scott Redding harries Bradley Smith. Gino Rea is running nineteenth. Ianonne is going after Simone Corsi. Tom Luthi is down in twelfth spot. He started nineteenth. Anthony West passes Mika Kallio and Smith passes Redding. DiMeglio is giving it a great ride in this race. The race is now six laps old. Marques sets a 1:55.1 while other riders runn 55.3 and 55.4 seconds. Marques chased Stefan Bradl all last year, and Bradl is of course a MotoGP rider now.
Andrea Ianonne might start fading a bit when the second half of the race comes around. That sometimes happen to him. This race is far from being done and dusted. Corsi drops fast time while Corsi runs third while Marques leads over Pol Espargaro. Ianonne and Zarco battle for fourth. Simone Corsi goes quicker running a 1:54.6 lap time. Marques can go quickly, but he uses the bike up. Sometimes the Suter bike can't quite run at the level Marques wants. Espargaro did a wheelie and that might slow him down. Cirsu us giubg fir ut, Espargaro's team manager, (champion rider Sito Pons), is a bit concerned.
Marques still has Espargaro hounding him. Espargaro closes on Marques. Tito Rabat and Bradley Smith are in a battle of their own, losing Mike DiMeglio to a lower position. This race is half over. Simone Corsi passes but has Pol Espargaro all over him. Andrea Ianonne is pushing, but it looks like Corsi is the one who can take the most chances at this stage. Ianonne slides past Espargaro who runs wide and Ianonne kills two birds with one stone. He also passes Corsi. Ianonne will be able to challenge Marc Marques.
Scott Redding and Tito Rabat battle. Redding passes Rabat. Anthony West passes Mike DiMeglio. Tom Luthi is nowhere to be seen. He languishes. Brad Smith passes Johann Zarco. Smith is fifth. Scott Redding also is in position to attack. Jordi Torres is doing very well, too. Luthi is sinking. Meanwhile, Ianonne is trying to get by Marques, still. Marques is in control of this race. Marques knows he has to hold off Ianonne.
Marquez needs to finish in front of Pol Espargaro. But, it won't matter too much, should Ianonne win. Seven laps remain. Mika Kallio is not having the race he wants. Ianonne has passed for the lead on Marc Marquez. Redding, Zarco, and Espargaro, all set their personal best laps of the race. Marquez has the outside line on Pol Espargaro. Marquez slides by Espargaro. Zarco also slides by Simone Corsi, into fourth. The battle continues showing no sign of letting up. Marques goes inside Ianonne. Can he hold the spot? Yes.
Marquez goes through on Ianonne. Not so fast. It's Ianonne and Marquez just flight. pol Espargaro comes through. Scott Redding isn als there. Redding passes Marquez is fading now! Oh boy! Redding tries and successfully passes Scott Redding. These guys have battled before. Bradley Smith passes Johann Zarco, too. Redding passes Marquez. This is a battle royal! Redding through on Marquez. Espargaro holds off Ianonne. Redding blocks Marquez, helping the leaders.
Espargaro has to book it if he wants this win. Just four laps remain. Marquez passes Ianonne, but no. Three laps left now as Espargaro turns new fast lap. Marquez also sets fast lap. Espargaro wants his third win of 2012. It's Marquez vs. Ianonne now. Marquez holds the bike in and they touch! Can Marquez close up on Espargaro? He got by Andrea Ianonne. Ianonne won't stop. These guys are relentless into the Aragon corkscrew! Marquez has to push. Pol Espargaro might win this thing. Johann Zarco is sixth and will get a good finish. This is the last lap. The points gap will be massively large with four races left. Espargaro will lead Marquez, likely. Ianonne wants by Marquez, but no. Marquez defends!
It's the last lap. Redding is now third, passing Ianonne. Can Redding pass Marquez? Pol Espargaro is going to win this race. Four bikes battloe for second through fifth. Down the back straight for the final time, it looks like Espargaro wins it with Marquez second, and Redding third! Wow!
