MotoGP round 1: Qatar

Qatar is again, the venue, for the opening race, of MotoGP.  Finally, the 2015 season, has arrived!

This is the 66th season of MotoGP.  Marc Marquez will need to fight Ducati.  Both Repsol Honda's are on the front row.  They come to the grid.  Let's go racing.  We've waited since November for this.

22 laps of the Losail International Circuit.  Go!  Dovizioso leads with Bradley Smith coming.  Marc Marquez has sunk to the back of the pack!  Ducati leads!  Jorge Lorenzo runs second.  This is going to be wild.  World champ, Marquez, is not doing well.  He's going to have to cut his way through this field.  He is on a mission!  But, Andrea Dovizioso has put Ducati at the front.  Valentino Rossi is down the order, too.

Andrea Ianonne is third.  Ducati and Yamaha are at the front.  Iannone is going to fly, too.  Lorenzo wants by, but no.  Two Ducati's, and one Yamaha.  Yonny Hernandez, Bradley Smith, and Pol Espargaro, follow.  Marc Marquez has sunk.  Alvaro Bautista and Aprilia, are in the pits already.  Not good, for Aprilia, making their return to MotoGP.  Both Honda's are in big trouble.  Whoa!  Lorenzo dives down past Dovizioso here on lap two.

Lorenzo wrecked on the first lap of this race last year.  Welcome back, MotoGP!  Marc Marquez has passed Scott Redding.  But, he's still 3.9 seconds behind Lorenzo.  Yonny Hernandez is being pushed by Bradley Smith.  Jack Miller runs off the road at the first corner.  The Moto 3 champion, is a MotoGP rookie this year.  Yonny Hernandez is being hounded by the Tech 3 Yamaha's.  Marquez recovers back to 12th spot as Jorge Lorenzo sets fast lap at 1:55.410.

Alvaro Bautista has the Aprilia in the pit lane.  Those guys are going to take time to come to grips with their new motorcycle.  Dani Pedrosa and Valentino Rossi are moving in on Yonny Hernandez.  Jorge Lorenzo might be back on form this year as Valentino Rossi tries passing Dani Pedrosa.  It's Rossi vs. Pedrosa.  Pedrosa says, "no way, sunshine."  The Doctor, is in the house.  Ooh.  Pedrosa drops down the order as Rossi passes Hernandez.

Pol Espargaro runs wide.  Marc Marquez charges past the LCR Honda of Cal Crutchlow.  Marquez is steaming ahead, trying to scythe his way through this field.  We work lap four.  For Ducati, they don't know.  Will the tires work?  Will the new GP15 last?  Everyone is now running Michelin tires of course.  Valentino Rossi resets fast lap at 1:55.267.  Lorenzo continues to lead.  Alvaro Bautista says that Marc Marquez touched him, and damaged the new Aprilia.

Andrea Dovizioso is still second.  Lorenzo still leads, as we complete lap six.  The Ducati should have the advantage.  Wow!  356 kilometers per hour!  That's 222.5 miles an hour, on a motorcycle!  Can you believe it!  These guys are the most courageous athletes in the world.  Mark my words.  You have to be a true athlete to tame these wild, two wheeled beasts.

Seven laps done.  15 to go.  Yamaha, Ducati, Ducati, Yamaha.  Then come the Repsol Honda's of Dani Pedrosa and Marc Marquez.  Andrea Dovizioso takes the lead.  Look at the winglets on the Ducati's.  Rossi might get stronger.  Game over for Loris Baz is out of this race.  A disappointment for the Forward Racing rider.  Rossi is right on top of the top three bikes.  Valentino Rossi is into his 20th season in Grand Prix motorcycle racing.

Rossi could get his 83rd MotoGP win, if he gets to the front.  Jorge Lorenzo drops into the 1:56 bracket.  Dovizioso is trying to break away and Andrea Ianonne is going for it.  Loris Baz, will continue in this race.  He won't retire.  But, he's having tire issues.  Dovizioso leads this race, still.  Can Ducati win?  Wow.  Here comes Jorge Lorenzo, retaking the lead from Andrea Dovizioso and Ducati.

The two Ducati's pass him back.  They aren't finished yet.  Lorenzo takes seconds from Ianonne.  This is a humdinger of a battle, folks.  We have eleven or so laps left.  Wow.  We waited for a long time for this race, and the wait, was worth it.  Can Dovizioso win on debut with the new GP15?  Lorenzo is not giving up.  The Yamaha YZR M1 is still competitive.  Valentino Rossi takes third from Andrea Ianonne.  Ianonne wants it.  He can't get it.  Are the Yamaha's eating up the new Ducati's?

The Honda's are also there.  But Marquez and Pedrosa are not quite there yet.  Aleix Espargaro is led by his brother Pol Espargaro.  The new Suzuki is just outside the top ten.  Marc Marquez passes Dani Pedrosa through turns five and six.  Marquez is 4.3 seconds behind Jorge Lorenzo.  Lorenzo continues to lead.  The Yamaha's are still splitting the Ducati's.  But, the Ducati's have more low end power.  Rossi fights Dovizioso.  These boys are going for it hammer and tongs.  This race is far from over, and very exciting!

Jorge Lorenzo has taken the lead from Andrea Dovizioso.  The Ducati's have a softer tire under factory option rules.  Will the tires hold together?  Dovizioso takes the lead.  Marc Marquez is still fifth.  Dovizioso ran in too hot, and Lorenzo took the lead.  Lorenzo wants his 34th career MotoGP win.  Just seven laps to go.  This race has flown by.  This is quite the fight for victory.  Marquez is pulling away from Pedrosa.

Can Marc Marquez get back into contention?  Lorenzo still leads.  Marquez is going for it.  But he will run out of time.  Dovizioso wants Lorenzo.  Andrea Ianonne continues to follow these blokes.  Dovizioso still looks for a way around Lorenzo.  Rossi is not done yet either.  Through these quick, third gear, right hand corners.  Rossi has the hard option front Michelin on his bike.  He's the only rider with it.  Rossi can't get close enough to Dovizioso.

Andrea Dovizioso thought of it.  But, he can't quite get to Lorenzo.  Marc Marquez runs 218 miles an hour.  Cal Crutchlow, Yonny Hernandez, and Bradley Smith run seventh, eighth, and ninth.  Smith wants by Hernandez.  Smith is trying to chase down Crutchlow.  Rossi tries Dovizioso and can't pass.  Dovizioso tries Jorge Lorenzo.  Rossi is trying.  Five laps to go.  Dovizioso takes the lead, but the Yamaha's come right back.

Dovizioso took the lead, ran wide, and now, he's trying to reel in Lorenzo.  Rossi wants Dovizioso, but can't get there.  This, is a fair fight.  Dovizioso wants this, bad.  Dovizioso tries to use the dradft, and he takes the lead.  Can he stick the line?  Yes.  Dovizoso leads.  Is the bike going to hang on?  It's leading the race, after being created, just five weks ago.  Rossi goes to second.  He wants by Dovizioso.

Rossi is right on the Ducati's rear tire.  Rossi wants to win.  He's going for it.  Rossi leads.  Dovizioso, fights back.  This is amazing.  We have just a handful of laps to go.  This is amazing!  Will the hard Michelin rear tire help Rossi?  Will Dovizioso hang on?  Ianonne passes Lorenzo.  Rossi is the meat in a Ducati sandwich.  Rossi wants his 83rd race win, and wants a tenth world championship.  Rossi up the inside, but now.  These boys are going for it.

Rossi has to put a gap on Dovizioso.  The Ducati has more power.  Dovizioso takes the lead back with two laps left.  These guys are going for it.  Rossi knows that Dovizioso has the speed, but he doesn't quite have control of the new Ducati bike.  This has been an epic battle.  Dovizioso will use a run out of turn sixteen.  Marc Marquez won't catch these guys.  Rossi has to eke out a gap on Dovizioso.  Two laps to go.

Rossi knows he has to have five or six bike lengths on the Ducati.  One lap left.  Does Rossi have it in the bag?  No.  Here comes Dovizioso.  Rossi is wide through turn two.  Dovizioso won't give up.  He has to stay close.  Into the twisty corners.  Rossi holds on.  The Yamaha has the advantage in the corners.  It's all down to the last five corners.  Dovizioso comes back.  Here we go.  Dovizioso doesn't have enough.  Rossi does it!

#46 Valentino Rossi     ITA.     Yamaha

Rossi ties Casey Stoner, with four wins at the Losail International Circuit.  What a start to MotoGP 2015!  The next race is the Grand Prix of the Americas at Circuit of the Americas in Austin, Texas, in two weeks.  It will be the first of two U.S. rounds for MotoGP this year.
