Tito Rabat has only had one win in Moto 2. He's two races outside of the championship lead. Jonas Folger has two wins. But, he's also had two DNF's. Johann Zarco has three wins and eight straight podiums. He wants his first Moto 2 world championship. In qualifying, Johann Zarco nearly lost his front wheel on a hot lap. Tito Rabat is second. Alex Rins, is on pole. Who went for slicks? Who went for wet weather tires?
We will race 25 laps in this event. Mika Kallio is the defending race winner. Here go, with Moto 2! Go! Mika Kallio did not get the best start, doing a wheelie. Alex Rins leads this one over Tito Rabat. Julian Simon and Jonas Folger are hanging in there. Julian Simon goes to the race lead. Watch the damp patches on the road. Into the braking zone, the bikes are still relatively in order. Single file. Sam Lowes passes Alex Rins for third spot. Hafizh Syahrin goes into the race lead now. Sam Lowes runs in the draft.
Lowes tries to pass and canh't do it. Syahrin runs wide and Lowes has a chance, to take it. Julian Simon says, "no way, guys. I'm going to lead." Now, Lowes is back in front with Dominik Aegerter second. Julian Simon started 17th on the grid, chaps. 17th on the grid! Yikes! Sam Lowes is running well. He was sick on Friday, fighting exhaustion and a sore throat. He credits the summer break for keeping him healthy. Dominique Aegerter is running well. He also ran the Suzuka 8 Hours. Just to go racing, is a good idea, because you keep your fitness level up.
Zarco passes Rins. Johann Zarco wants to crack the top five. Alex Rins is also pushing hard. Aegerter runs fast lap at 1:41.522 while Sam Lowes leads. Lowes is the 2013 FIM World Supersport champion. Azlan Shah on bike #25 runs a unique line as Tito Rabat runs ninth, currently. Ooh! One rider slides really wide onto the back straightaway. Julian Simon is that rider, and he falls. Sticks the front, and down he goes. The seams in the asphalt could be holding more moisture even though the track is drying.
Johann Zarco has been charging through the field, taking third for Dominique Aegerter, and then, passes Lowes, and Syahrin. Zarco goes to the lead, and then, Dominique Aegerter, works his way by Zarco. Aegerter leads at Indianapolis, right now. Franco Morbidelli is the fastest rider on the road right now. Aegerter has won a race in Germany, after running the Suzuka 8 Hours. He did so this year, too. Is that a good sign? Franco Morbidelli is still pushing. Rabat and Syahrin ran wide. The top three are breaking away from the field.
Twelve laps to go now. Sam Lowers was battling Mika Kallio, and Kallio falls. Kallio points a finger at Sam Lowes, saying, "hey, buddy, that was not fair!" Alex Rins passes Dominique Aegerter. We saw a first time winner in Moto 3. Will we see a first-time winner in Moto 2? Rins started from pole. If he wins, he'll be the fourth youngest winner in Moto 2. Zarco goes to second. He wants his ninth straight podium finish. Aegerter passes into turn two, getting ahead of Zarco. Rabat is also a contender.
Tom Luthi is just ahead of Sam Lowes right now. This is a fair fight. Zarco runs wide, as Aegerter picks up the front of the bike. Ten laps to go in Moto 2. MotoGP, still to come. Rabat passes Zarco on the inside and Aegerter wants to make a pass. Zarco goes inside Rabat into turn two. It is the run to the finish for the riders of Moto 2. Aegerter moves back to the lead past Zarco. Rins is still in third.
Alex Rins does not have a Moto 2 win yet. Anyone in the top seven, can win. Lowes is down! Lowes, has crashed! The winner at Circuit of the Americas, game over. Zarco looks to the outside of Aegerter. Rins, Rabat, Morbidelli. Where is Tom Luthi? Rins wants second. Luthi is sixth. Zarco tries to get back inside Rins. The Dunlop tires are starting to get greasy, even though they are a great motorcycle tire.
Johann Zarco is losing a bit of ground, and he needs to get back to the front with Rins and Aegerter. Tito Rabat and Franco Morbidelli battle each other. Aegerter still leads. Zarco is closing up. Aegerter loses two places, including one to Morbidelli. Aegerter gets out of the seat, briefly/. He would again, become the fourth youngest winner in Moto 2... Alex Rins. Rins runs a 1:37.5 and it's his fastest lap.
It's the last lap now. A handful of corners to go. Oh! Hafizh Syahrin has wrecked. Zarco tries to close. But, Alex Rins, gets his first win in Moto 2, at Indianapolis!
#40 Alex Rins ESP. Kalex
The big boys and the big toys... the riders, of the MotoGP World Championship, race, next!
