Every point will count. Take risks, but be consistent. We are ready, for a start. Can Bradley Smith get his first podium of the season in his home race?
We'll find out. Who will lead the MotoGP World Championship after this 20 lap contest? Valentino Rossi could be the favorite. Look at the spray down the Wellington straight, into Brooklands. It's raining. It's a proper English, rainy Sunday afternoon. Marc Marquez wants his second straight win at Silverstone. The two Yamaha's are equal on points. We're ready to race. 20 laps, now. Go! Jorge Lorenzo gets the hole shot. Pol Espargaro is going for it. Jack Miller falls. Dani Pedrosa is down to fifth.
Marquez wants to get by Lorenzo, and Pol Espargaro is going for it, on Marquez. Bradley Smith is up to fifth past Bradley Smith. Pol Espargaro is up to second. Dani Pedrosa battles Bradley Smith into Club corner, and down the International Straight, through Abbey. Marquez gets passed by Valentino Rossi. Rossi nails Espargaro. Rossi is up to second. We remember the Moto 2 battles between Pol Espargaro and Marc Marquez. Jorge Lorenzo leads right now. Jack Miller has carved his way from 16th to the top eight, and he's passing his team mate, Cal Crutchlow, at LCR Honda. Lorenzo still leads.
Into Copse, Rossi gets by Marquez, and he's closing on Jorge Lorenzo through Maggots/Becketts. This could be the first head to head battle between the Yamah's all year. Rossi tries for the lead into Stowe. No dice. Rossi wants to lead. Jack Miller is seventh on his Open class Honda. They fly through Club. We had to wait for the start. It was worth waiting for. This is a hell of a race, chaps. The crowd is going nuts!
They run through Village. Marc Marquez passes Jorge Lorenzo into Aintree. Formula One fans at Silverstone, eat your heart out. This is MotoGP, in the rain! We have a faller! Jack Miller, up inside Cal Crutchlow, and Crutchlow crashes after being in third, going into Vail! Game over for both! Rossi leads over Marquez, and Lorenzo. What a disaster for LCR Honda! Marquez has Rossi in his cross hairs. Cal Crutchlow won't be on the podium. We work lap three. The conditions seem to be getting worse.
It's not getting any heavier in terms of rainfall. But the track is constantly wet. Miller had the front end wash away, and Cal Crutchlow had no place to go. You never want to take out your team mate. That's a sin in racing. Jorge Lorenzo is under pressure from Pol Espargaro. Crutchlow does come back into the race, on his spare motorcycle. Jorge Lorenzo is struggling. Pol Espargaro runs off the road. Aleix Espargaro is also up there. Valentino Rossi holds off Marc Marquez. Oh dear. Cal Crutchlow has gone down on his spare bike!
Valentino Rossi continues to lead this race. Danilo Petrucci has come from 18th to fifth! Andrea Dovizioso is also behind. Through Stowe into Vale, there are still things happening. Rossi continues to lead. Rossi has one podium at Silverstone. The race is heating up, even in the wet. The rain is pouring down. It's misty, wet, and treacherous. Nothing to split between Marc Marquez and Valentino Rossi. Both run in the 2:17.8. Danilo Petrucci passes Dani Pedrosa for fourth! They fight the puddles, coming to Abbey curve.
Dani Pedrosa is under attack from Andrea Dovizioso. Dovizioso passes Pedrosa. Will he pass Danilo Petrucci? Petrucci is on the year old Ducati GP14. But, it's a great motorcycle, just as the new GP15 is. There's nothing between the top two. 2:17.4 this time for Lorenzo. Danilo Petrucci tries Lorenzo and can't quite make it. Danilo Petrucci, used to be a policeman. Petrucci is still going for it, but Jorge Lorenzo holds him at bay. Danilo Petrucci wants his first podium. Bradley Smith is also moving up. They race through the Farm curve, into Village, and into The Loop.
Petrucci is up to third! Jorge Lorenzo's race is going pear shaped! Andrea Dovizioso is up to fourth. There is a monumental swing going in this championship. Valentino Rossi has had one podium at Silverstone, last year. He's not won since Assen in Holland, in late June. It's been two months. Rossi runs best race lap at 2:17.026. Jorge Lorenzo has fallen down to sixth place! He is in the middle of a nightmare, and his team mate, Valentino Rossi, might cream him in terms of World Championship points today!
Eleven laps to go yet. Pol Espargaro passes Bradley Smith. Rossi is extending his championship lead. Jorge Lorenzo remains sixth, struggling, in the wet. We are ten laps in. Halfway home. Danilo Petrucci is still third. Andrea Dovizioso remains fourth. Will Marc Marquez make a move on Valentino Rossi. They race down Hangar straight and into Stowe corner. Will there be argy bargy between Rossi and Marquez like the Dutch TT in June? Danilo Petrucci is a half second clear of Andrea Dovizioso, in a lonely third spot.
Where will Marquez make his move? Nine laps remain. They are still lapping in the 2:18s, the lead duo. Some riders down the order run as quick as 2:16. Andrea Dovizioso wants by Danilo Petrucci. It's Ducati GP15 vs. Ducati GP14. Stefan Bradl, Nicky Hayden, and Maverick Vinales on the Suzuki, complete the points paying spots. Dovizioso passes Petrucci. Dovizioso takes third spot away. He's 5.9 seconds behind Marc Marquez. We complete lap 12. Eight remain. Marc Marquez has crashed out of the British Grand Prix! Game over! This is a gift for Rossi. Marquez cannot possibly win a third straight championship. He's crashed at Copse.
He lost the rear of the bike into Copse corner. Valentino Rossi is now six and a half seconds clear of Andrea Dovizioso. Rossi could win the British Grand Prix, and seize the advantage in the world championship. Valentino Rossi continues to lead. We watch Petrucci and Dovizioso battle for second. Jorge Lorenzo is also in this fight. He's fourth. Valentino Rossi has backed off slightly. The gap is down to 3.8 seconds. Game over for Stefan Bradl and Aprilia. Bradl crashes. We're going to keep an eye on the Ducati's sector times. Andrea Dovizioso vs. Danilo Petrucci.
Valentino Rossi still leads. You haven't missed anything in the lead. Petrucci tries Dovizioso and makes it stick through Village and into The Loop. Wow. Petrucci is back into second place. Good on the policeman! Dovizioso runs wide, and Petrucci regains second spot! Holy cow! Rossi leads Petrucci by 3.1 seconds. Is it a big enough gap? Rossi has ridden a brilliant race. He wants his fourth win of 2015. Keep looking at the sector times. Will the Ducati's give the Yamaha a headache?
The rain is pouring at Stowe right now. Ooh! Pol Espargaro crashes the Tech 3 Yamaha. Game over. His team mate, Bradley Smith, continues. Danilo Petrucci is set on catching Valentino Rossi. Can he do it? The gap is pretty tight. The rain is appalling. They fly into Stowe corner again. This is likely Danilo Petrucci's best ride in years! Can he pull of an upset? Petrucci is trying to take the fight to Rossi. 2.375 seconds gap. We have just two laps to go. They fly through Aintree and onto the Wellington straight.
Into Brooklands, Petrucci and Dovizioso go for it. There are just four laps to go. Danilo Petrucci is eating away time out of Rossi's gap. Could Petrucci win? Rossi is booking it. Petrucci has nothing to lose and everything to gain. They run into Stowe corner. All these riders are on the soft wet tires. Three and a half laps left into Vale. Through Club, it's Rossi vs. Petrucci, vs. Dovizioso. The gap is just over a second. Has Rossi managed his tires better than the Ducati's? Three laps left now. Rossi has found a couple of tenths.
Jorge Lorenzo has broken the resolve of Dani Pedrosa. Scott Redding is going to finish sixth. Three laps to go now. He has a lead of 1.6 seconds over Petrucci and Dovizioso. Scott Redding is running very well. He'll leave Marc VDS at the end of the year, and move to Pramac Ducati, for next year. Just two laps left now. Bradley Smith is holding off Andrea Ianonne. These two battled in 125cc and Moto 2 competition. Rossi is two laps away from winning. His dad, Graziano Rossi was leading a 250cc race in 1979 at Silverstone. Papa, crashed with two laps left. Will son, win this?
Game over for Karel Abraham. He's crashed. This race is Rossi's to lose. He will be on the final lap, on the way to his fourth win of 2015. Crucial points are at stake. It's the final lap. This is one of the classics of World Grand Prix motorcycle racing. Rossi wants his 10th World Championship. Andrea Dovizioso is putting space between himself, and Jorge Lorenzo. It's the last lap. Lorenzo is not having any luck passing Dovizioso.
Rossi will win this race. Andrea Dovizioso will finish third. Valentino Rossi will see a very important win here. Rossi will have a 12 point edge on Lorenzo. Through Village. Seven corners left. Danilo Petrucci will get second. Valentino Rossi heads to Brooklands, and he's going to win. "The Doctor" does it! He wins at Silverstone!
