Winner of the Daytona 200

I don't normally follow motorcycle racing.  But, I have been watching the Daytona 200 (one of the most well known motorcycle races in the world) on TV today.  It's been a competitive race.  There were two major races.  The Daytona 200 is run by the AMA Daytona Sportbike division which used to be called 600 Supersport.  The race was run on the Daytona International Speedway road course for 57 laps or 200 miles.  There was also a race for the Superbike championship.  The Superbikes used to run the Daytona 200.  Here's some information on motorcycle racing.  Go to:

It could be that more motorcycle racing is covered on this blog.  Time will tell.  There are a couple of world championship motorcycle leagues including the FIM (which is the French run governing body that is the equivalent of the FIA for cars).  Also, there were two AMA American Superbike support races.  The Superbikes used to race the Daytona 200, between 1985 and 2004.  Before that, there was a Formula 1 motorcycle series run by the AMA between 1977 and 1984.

It's a four way fight to the finish.  Two Yamaha's, a Suzuki, and a Triumph.  Nineteen year old rookie rider, Joey Pascarello and Project One Racing win the 71st running of the Daytona 200!
.The Superbikes race on a modified (shortened) track which is 2.9 miles in length as compared to the full 3.56 mile Daytona International Speedway road course.  In the AMA Superbike Series races (there are two), Josh Hayes won the first race on the Yamaha.  In race two, it was nearly a photo finish!  Blake Young vs. Josh Hayes.  Larry Pegram gets third with Steve Rapp fourth.  Blake Young WON that race by two thousandths of a second!  Yikes!

Look for more possible motorcycle racing updates on this blog in the future.
